ABOUT
Kaori Iwasaki is a lyric coloratura soprano from Japan. Born in Nagasaki before growing up in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Iwasaki’s musical talent blossomed during her participation at a music club during junior high / high school.
She has completed both BA and MA in Vocal Performance from Senzoku Gakuen School of Music (Kawasaki, Japan) with highest honors and scholarship, which led her to gain opportunities to perform at the honorary students’ grand prix concert. During her BA studies she was selected as “special performer” 3 years in a row. During her MA studies she performed as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, the soprano soloist of Beethoven's Symphony No.9, and participated in numerous concerts outside the academy.
In 2015 Iwasaki performed at her first solo recital. The same year she attended Tokyo International Vocal Arts Academy, where she received coaching from the vice conductor of Metropolitan Opera.
In 2016 she began her studies in Professional Studies Diploma at Mannes School of Music, as well as moving her activity base to New York, United States. She performed as the Bridesmaid in The Marriage of Figaro with Mannes Opera during the 2017/2018 season. In 2018 she performed as Le Feu in L’enfant et les sortilèges during her attendance at summer program of International Masters Academy of Opera (New York, United States), sang at performance at United Nations before completing her studies at Mannes. In 2019 she studied & performed as Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Role Study Program of Martina Arroyo Foundation. She performed as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro with Chicago Summer Opera, Gilda from Rigoletto (excerpts) with Opera in Park Slope, and Frasquita in Carmen with Regina Opera Company in Brooklyn.
After returning to Japan in the beginning of 2020, she held a solo recital at Tokyo, performed Cinderella's sister in VS. Cinderella as original cast of premiere production by Hanasaki Opera Studio, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Unazuki Mozart Festival (online performance). She participated in the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia where she studied the role of Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Musetta in La Bohème.
In 2021 she participated in the Young Artist Program led by Akiko Nakajima.
Iwasaki received vocal training from Noriko Mizushima, Sachiyo Moroi, Ruth Falcon, Beth Roberts, Mika Shigematsu, Rika Iwai, and Mari Moriya. She also received vocal coaching from Dalton Baldwin, Jorge Parodi, and Howard Watkins.
She is currently a member of Tokyo Nikikai and Yokohama City Opera.
長崎県生まれ、神奈川県横浜市育ち。清泉女学院中学高等学校にて音楽部に所属。
洗足学園音楽大学声楽科卒業。在学中、3年連続で特別選抜演奏者、前田記念奨学生に認定され、卒業時に成績優秀賞を受賞、卒業演奏会に出演。同大学大学院声楽科を首席で修了。各コースの首席のみが出演するグランプリ特別演奏会に出演。洗足学園音楽大学・大学院在学中は電子オルガンとのコンサートをはじめ、ベートーヴェン交響曲「第九番」ソプラノソリスト、オペラ「ドン・ジョヴァンニ」のドンナ・アンナ役、ミューザ川崎レクチャーコンサート「恋する日本語」コンサート等、多数出演。
2015年4月にさくらエコー主催で初のソロリサイタルを行う。7月東京インターナショナル・ヴォーカル・アーツ・アカデミーに参加、メトロポリタン歌劇場副指揮者より指導を受ける。
2016年8月よりアメリカ・ニューヨークのマネス音楽院プロフェッショナル・スタディーズ・ディプロマにて研鑽を積む。
2017年12月、マネス音楽院のマネスオペラプロダクション「フィガロの結婚」において花娘を務めた。
2018年7月、ニューヨークで行われたサマープログラム、IMAOにおいて「子供と魔法」火役を務めたほか、国連で開催されたイベントにてパフォーマンスを行った。マネス音楽院修了。
2019年、マルティナ・アローヨ・ファウンデーションのロールスタディプログラムにて「カプレーティとモンテッキ」のジュリエッタ役を学び、コンサート出演。5月オペラ・イン・パークスロープのオペラシーンコンサートに出演。7月にシカゴで行われたサマープログラム、シカゴ・サマー・オペラのプロダクション「フィガロの結婚」にバルバリーナ役として出演。11月にNYブルックリンのレジーナ・オペラ・カンパニーの「カルメン」のスニークピーク公演にてフラスキータ役を務めた。
2020年、1月に帰国。2月にベヒシュタインカフェでのソロリサイタルを行う他、はなさきオペラ工房の新作オペラ「VS.シンデレラ」のプレミア公演に姉1役として出演。10月に宇奈月モーツァルト音楽祭@東京「ドン・ジョヴァンニ」にドンナ・アンナ役で出演（コロナの影響でオンライン配信）。また、夏の間にメキシコのサマーフェスティバル、ISOFOM（コロナの影響でオンライン開催）に参加、「フィガロの結婚」スザンナ役、「ラ・ボエーム」ムゼッタ役のロールスタディを行った。
2021年中嶋彰子プロデュース農楽塾に12期生にとして参加、コンサート出演。
これまでに声楽を水島紀子、諸井サチヨ、Ruth Falcon、Beth Roberts、重松みか、岩井理花、森谷真理の各氏に師事。またヴォーカルコーチはDalton Baldwin、Jorge Parodi、Howard Watkinsに師事。
